Kernel BUG at drivers/iommu/intel-iommu.c:3740

I have made a fresh Arch Linux installation today and everything seems to be working just fine until I try to start the NetworkManager daemon (seems to be disabled by default). After doing so, the computer freezes for about a minute. After that, the NetworkManage seem to have started:

[root@vongrad-itk vongrad]# systemctl status NetworkManager
● NetworkManager.service - Network Manager

However at this point, I am still unable to use NetworkManager (nmcli hangs forever) as well as whenever I try to execute 'sudo' (probably also other network related commands), it hangs infinitely. After checking journalctl, I get following:

Re: Kernel BUG at drivers/iommu/intel-iommu.c:3740

Try passing "iommu=soft" to the kernel parameters.

Re: Kernel BUG at drivers/iommu/intel-iommu.c:3740

Seems to have fixed the issue. Are there any implications of using this boot option? I am not sure if I understand what it does exactly but it sounds like it has some performance implications. Could you please clarify on this?

Re: Kernel BUG at drivers/iommu/intel-iommu.c:3740

It maintains the functionality of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input%E2% … ement_unit but implements the solution in software.
