Upgrade to Wesnoth 1.15.1? Not a stable version.

Does anyone know why The Battle for Wesnoth has been upgraded to the 1.15.1 development version instead of sticking with the stable version? Wesnoth has always used odd numbers for devel versions and even for stable.

Because it is tagged as a release? https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/releases

If you look at https://www.wesnoth.org/#download 1.15.1 is marked as a development version. 1.14.7 is the current stable version. Wesnoth has always used a numbering scheme like this. If the minor version is odd it's a devel version, if it's even it's a stable version. I think they tag devel versions as 'releases' because they are kinda releases of sorts. Just not stable ones.
Steam and the PPA for Ubuntu are still shipping 1.14.7 and probably will be until 1.16 is released and this will break compatibility. I'll try to get hold of the maintainer.
