udiskie and devices appearing/disappearing

I have udiskie to handle storage devices on my desktop. I get frequent notifications from libnotify telling me that /dev/sdd has disappeared and then appeared without any intervention from me. /dev/sdd should be my SD card and is labelled as such in my system tray.
Does anyone else experience this, or fixed it for that matter?

Do you have any sort of power management running - TLP, powertop, etc ?

No - I first noticed this about two months ago. It roughly coincided with a period when I was cloning my HDD set up of /boot and Windows 10 to an SSD using ddrescue from arch (I can't see how those are related though). I've check all the cables internally and can't find any that look like they might have got bumped and would have a dodgy connection internally etc.
