kde wayland

is there a tutorial how to install kde with wayland and nvidia?

if i select plasma wayland from login screen it will freeze my computer after switching to text mode for me. only response is the shutdown button. anything else is not working (including ctrl+alt+del)
i forgot where the logs for wayland was but i got an error about 1-2 services.

is there a list with what packages are required for wayland to work?

Re: kde wayland

Did you enable KMS? That's a basic requirement.

i've added the nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to kernel parameters rebooted and switch to wayland from sddm.
it worked. but is stutter so badly until the desktop froze.
mouse cursor has probably 1.5 times bigger than before (24 inch 1080p monitor)
well at least it worked. badly but it worked.

edit: i just notice. dxvk is not working with wayland. lutris reports no vulkan installed.

Re: kde wayland

Please notice that plasma on wayland isn't really stable or usable, at least not as much as the X11 version. I'm trying it out every now and then but it's just not there yet. But the kde community just set their goals for the next releases and one of them is Wayland stability. https://dot.kde.org/2019/09/07/kde-deci … y-and-apps
What makes it even worse is that nvidia doesn't really support wayland, or there was something and nvidia helped kde to iron it out, not sure. But it's not there yet, expect bugs. You can report them to kde at bugs.kde.org they will be happy about that as not many people test wayland currently. For a stable experience stay with X11.

Re: kde wayland

from what i've read on some reddit post, nvidia made their own support for wayland recently and thats why now wayland works with nvidia. but its stutter like hell on kde. gnome responds a bit better. but on both gnome and kde i can't start any games dxvk due to missing vulkan. i don't know why just by switching from x11 to wayland i ran out of vulkan. thats strange. probably drivers are a total failure.

Re: kde wayland

wine, and by extension DXVK still heavily rely on a few xorg specifics. And as far as I know nvidia does not yet have accelerated xwayland contexts so that's likely what you will see here.
