GDM failed to start after systemd upgrade to version 243

Journalctl -u gdm  shows:

Sep 09 11:12:05 arch gdm-launch-environment][24479]: pam_systemd(gdm-launch-environment:session): Failed to create session: Seat has no VTs but VT number not 0

my gdm is complied from source to start with VT 8. This was fine until  systemd version 242.

Any ideas how to fix this
