new install (solved)

I'm trying to install it  in a virtualbox VM.
I used the magnet link but the downloaded ISO wouldn't boot.
The torrent link booted.
I got down to the 'passwd' command in the install guide but the return key didn't get me out of the command.
Ctrl-c didn't work.
I powered off the machine.

It got past that step when I booted the iso again. :-)
