I recently updated about 175 pacman packages (had a week long internet outage). After a restart I'm getting error messages from systemd:
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: dbus.socket: Socket service dbus.service not loaded, refusing.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: Failed to listen on D-Bus System Message Bus Socket.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Light Display Manager.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: lightdm.service: Job lightdm.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Login Service.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: systemd-logind.service: Job systemd-logind.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Network Manager.
Sep 11 19:55:29 arch systemd[1]: NetworkManager.service: Job NetworkManager.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.
I booted a live cd and chrooted in to see the journal, but I can't check the status of dbus.socket as I was told to on the boot screen. I also can't enable dbus.service:
$ sudo systemctl enable dbus.service
Failed to enable unit, file dbus.service: Link has been severed.
I saw some forum posts on this issue, but none of them seem to be what I'm having (i double checked the /run -> /var/run symlink and it seems to be fine).

I managed to find a faulty symlink to dbus.service
$ sudo ls -l /etc/systemd/system | grep dbus.service
dbus.service -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/dbus-broker.service
The dbus-broker.service was missing, so I relinked it.
$ sudo unlink /etc/systemd/system/dbus.service
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/systemd/system/dbus.service /etc/systemd/system/dbus.service
I reinstalled systemd and this time it installed witout any errors. After a reboot everything works fine.
Marking this thread as solved.
