I am attempting to utilize xmonad while I xrdp (xorg session) to my archbox, however I cannot see my xmobar while using xrdp. xmonad is fully functional while I am on my archlinux box natively (startx) and I can see my xmobar. what are some things I need to consider to troubleshoot xmonad over xrdp?

Below are the details of the version i am working with.
xmobar 0.29.5
xmonad 0.15
The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System, version 8.6.5
Problem exists with windows and mac rdp clients.

Please post the xorg logs from the session that works as intended and the one that does not.
Have you tested xrdb by using a local remote desktop client on the local machine (i.e., host and client on the same machine)?

I was able to use xfreerdp locally from the same archlinux system and saw the issue with the xmobar missing from the top. As a side note: I am running this same xmonad config on a mint linux system (different hardware), however xmobar is displaying with no issues. Not sure if it matters, but the versions are different as follows.
Mint - xmobar 0.24.5
Arch - xmobar 0.29.5
Mint - xmonad 0.13
Arch - xmonad 0.15
Mint - The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System, version 8.0.2
Arch - The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System, version 8.6.5
Are you looking to see the logs from /var/log? I don't see the xrdp session generating logs in that directory however I do have a file $HOME/.xorgxrdp.10.log. Let me know and I can post it to my github for viewing.
Thanks

Here is another interesting datapoint. If I start a terminal and then I run xmobar in the foreground in that terminal, the xmobar stays up and works fine. Not sure why but when I run it in the background, at least the one time I did, it core dumped.

Thanks - the logs look pretty clean. But one thing stands out: the two sessions have (I think) very different screen geometries. Is your xmobar configured to show up at a certain place on the screen?
Can you post your xinitrc and any Xmonad/Xmobar configs (these can probably be in [ code ] tags here on the forum unless they are very long).

My xmobar is configured to show at the top of the screen.
Here is my xmonad.hs

Here is my xmobarrc

Thanks for taking a look.

One more observation, after a fresh reboot and prior to startx, I rdp for the first time and xmobar does not start per the xmonad config above. This is strange because it does spawn for my local startx screen.
When I start the xmobar manually (from the terminal within the xrdp session) the "StdinReader" is showing as updating, but when I use startx from the console of the machine it shows what is expected.
I confirmed that the xmobar is being called, but it is exiting.
This is not the error, but I do see the output - "<stdin>: hGetLine: end of file"
