[solved] GNOME does not save sound output device anymore

Hi!

After recent GNOME updates it no longer saves sound output device from previous session.

Steps to reproduce:

1) turn on PC, login
2) switch output from HDMI to Analog via GNOME Settings
3) restart PC
4) check output device, its HDMI again

What I tried:

1) open pavucontrol, switch "fallback" device from HDMI to Analog
2) yay -S alsa-utils; sudo alsactl store
3) reboot and see that changes are not saved, "fallback" device is HDMI again

What else can I try?
Thanks!

Since you're using yay... Do you have any Gnome related AUR packages installed that you are unaware of that could cause this problem?

Not debugging with pacman will most likely give you such replies here :-)

Thats fine smile
I believe these are ok:

$ pacman -Qm
alac-git 0.r5.c38887c-1
drive-bin 0.3.9-1
gamin 0.1.10-9
gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-dock 66-1
gnome-shell-extension-dynamic-top-bar-git 3.3.1.r23.ga10cffc-1
google-chrome 77.0.3865.75-1
lib32-libmng 2.0.3-1
ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-10
yay 9.2.1-1

Re: [solved] GNOME does not save sound output device anymore

So I remember that ~1 year ago I did some changes to /etc/pulse/default.pa to fix Bluetooth audio not autoconnecting

Went there now and removed the line I added back then:
load-module module-switch-on-connect

Issue solved. Is this a bug? Should I report it? Against pulseaudio?

Re: [solved] GNOME does not save sound output device anymore

Downgrading pulseaudio and dependencies to 12.99 which was the previous version (01-09-2019) did not fix it, so GNOME it is then? Maybe I should install another DE to make sure?

Re: [solved] GNOME does not save sound output device anymore

I'd do some research on the relationship between module-switch-on-connect and gnome not saving the device before filing bug reports.
