5K Desktop Users

Who out there is running a 5K monitor on their desktop workstation?

I've been using one of the Dell UP2715K 5Ks with a NVIDIA 1070 GPU for a few years now at 5120x2880 60Hz with i3 as my window manager.  It generally works okay but there's no Wayland with the proprietary NVIDIA chipset and the monitor has some occasional issues when it goes into DPMS sleep.

I've been doing some research into the LG 5K, which uses Thunderbolt 3.  It was made for the Mac but supposedly some people are using it with Windows by running one of the few motherboards that have the Thunderbolt 3 ports and the Intel Z170 chipset.  Supposedly, the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 TH is one such model.

What I don't know is if anyone has actually made this work with Linux and Xorg or Wayland.  I'm interested in hearing from anybody who has tried.
