[solved] Fakeroot not working

When using fakeroot it dies with:

fakeroot, while creating message channels: Function not implemented
This may be due to a lack of SYSV IPC support.
fakeroot: error while starting the `faked' daemon.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

edit: seems I screwed up my kernel, works now.

I was using makepkg, which launches fakeroot.  Launching fakeroot or faked directly still causes the problem.
