Hello,
I've recently changed the plan in my VPS, which increased the capacity of the disk. Then I've increased the partition with parted and resize2fs.
Now I find an odd problem where the VPS becomes unresponsive after a bit. In the monitoring section of the VPS provider it shows that, starting from a certain point, the processor usage became 100% and stays so undefinetely. Furthermore, I suspect it's the same point where journalctl stops reporting any log (https://www.heypasteit.com/clip/0IT8OO).
Yesterday I was able to log in by ssh (today also SSH was unresponsive) and noticed that both journalctl and a process named jbd2 were cumulatively using the whole cpu. Searching on the internet, this seems to be caused by some process emitting too many log entries, but I wasn't able to perform the tracing as reported on https://serverfault.com/questions/47686 … g-99-99-io , because the VPS was too unresponsive, I could not even access the log from journalctl.
Moreover, after a reboot, I was not still able to log in by ssh, while the rest of the services (mail server, web server) seemed to be okay, and I had to fall back to rescue mode.
Any suggestions on how to investigate/solve this issue?

I've managed to log in again in the VPS after a reboot and before becoming totally unmanageable. Again jbd2/vda1-8 and kworker/u2:0+flush-254:0 this time are using the whole cpu, but iotop shows no activity whatsever. I can create files (with touch), but apparently I cannot write any content, that is also vim became stuck when i pressed :wq.

running fatrace and iotop shows normal activity from sshd & exim. Perhaps it's the performance of the disk that dramatically deteriorates over time (few hours) ?

Hi there,
it turns out that there was nothing wrong with my configuration. The problem did not reappear (for whatever reason) after the VPS has been migrated to a different host by the host provider.
