i just had the same problem too, maybe that's due to the new expat (i'm using testing). i built the latest xfdesktop-svn with the PKGBUILD from arch.os-zen.net from Shadowhand and after running xfdesktop everything works fine again.

elasticdog: this happened because you exited the session gracefully without xfdesktop running (I suppose), and it assumed you didn't want it to run anymore.
Testing users should indeed recompile, or else it segfaults.

hey shadowhand, can i get your latest PKGBUILDs for xfce-svn? the ones on http://arch.os-zen.net/pkg/xfce-svn/00-pkgbuild/ are a little behind ![]()

just use versionpkg (from community) instead of makepkg. it will always checkout the latest version from svn so you don't have to edit the PKGBUILDs yourself.

hi,
I dont use testing and it doesn't work, either
$ xfdesktop

I just used pacman to install the latest xfce4-svn from your repo, and added 'exec xfce4-session' into my .xinitrc
Logging out/logging in I get the message that xfce4-session could not be found..
Is there something I've missed?
Thanks.

Sorry for double post:
[11:13] <Manifold> Hey. I installed the latest xfce-svn from your server
[11:13] * [Shadowhand] is away (@eh?)
[11:13] <Manifold> But it didn't make any symlinks in my /usr/bin
[11:13] <Manifold> There are no entries whatsoever to do with XFCE4 there..
[11:15] <Manifold> [11:15] <Manifold> I found the problem: /opt/xfce4/bin/xfce4-session
[11:15] <Manifold> [11:15] <Manifold> Everything has been installed to /opt/xfce4/bin/
[11:15] <Manifold> [11:15] <Manifold> :E
[11:16] <Manifold> Hmm.
That's the problem.. I think.
There are no entries in /usr/bin to do with XFCE/Thunar (Missing symlink?)

You need to logout and log back in. That will update your PATH .

Yeah. Wizzomafizzo told me on IRC after he said to add to my $PATH..
Ah well. I'll learn..

Quick question...shouldn't all of the -svn packages use the <code>provides</code> field in the PKGBUILD so it takes the place of the normal version? I'd like to adopt [url=Mousepad and it needs libxfcegui4, but I have libxfcegui4-svn installed. Feel free to flame me if this is a retarded question... ![]()

A fair question, but only if the svn packages were actually compatible with the stable ones, and they aren't.
As for the mousepad package, you have to somehow ensure that it will build correctly against the official packages, and disregard those pesky users that try to find new and exciting ways to break their systems when using unofficial repos and such,

Good point...hadn't thought about the potential incompatibilities. Perhaps I'll wait until the upcomming stable Xfce release and tackle mousepad then.

No, because xfce4 and xfce4-svn are incompatible at this point. All xfce4-svn have conflicts=() with the non-svn pkg.

same dependency problem.
pacman -S gstreamer0.10, and works fine.

May i ask if you are trying to compile bmpx 0.30.0, because it was just released...

No, bmpx-svn. And it's broken right now, and I really could care less. I didn't like bmpx last time I used it, and I don't see myself liking it any more now.

My repo contains -cvs, -svn, alpha, beta, and pre-release software. I have it because I like to have bleeding edge stuff, and I like the progams I package.
Maybe i should have thought of that before i asked...
Sorry about the OT.
