Hey,
Anybody knows how to get the harvard style bibtex working? I've copied harvard.sty to just about every possible search path (/usr/share/texmf... /usr/share/texmf-dist... $HOME/.texmf) but no matter what I get an "File `harvard.sty.sty' not found."
Any clues?

It's been a while since I've installed sty files, but IIRC, you need to "texhash" (perhaps as root/with sudo) to make the new files usable?

Thanks a lot. I'm not sure what texhash actually does (the man page isn't very clear about that) but it sure works! It's so great!

TeX has one great advetage - you can use many tables/images etc. and it all works good. If you put many graphics into OpenOfficeWriter it is hard to keep it in desired order with all captions in good place. MS Word can handle many graphics and captions, but... who uses MS Word!?

i'm curious...
in relation of OO.o2, how well does image placement/wrap work? How hard is it to put in captions?
right now, i'm using LaTeX (with kile) for writing anything that doesn't require any formatting standard... i haven't delved into making a style just yet

I haven't really had to write anything more complicated than an MLA paper. Those I write in a text file, and I have a makefile that runs a few sed commands to insert troff -me macros and gives me a pdf. Works like a charm.
Though it does sound handy to be able to put diagrams in your notes easily like that. I was thinking of making a simple doodle program that I can call from my editor that would return the name of the file it created to do something like that.

In the end, I had an incredibly beautiful, easy to read thesis, with nice headings, consistent style, table of contents, bibliography, index, etc. Although I spent a lot of time learning how to format things in LaTeX (which was occasionally distracting), I don't think that I could have made anything comparable in a WYSIWYG editor, even had I spent more time on it.
I would love to see that work--primarily interested in the layout and references as a result of your approach. Got link?
