[SOLVED] I can connect to some WiFis but not others?

Hey guys, for some reason I can connect to the wireless network provided by my phone if I switch on WiFi hotspot, but then if I try to connect to my usual wireless network it will have a kernel panic (the Caps-Lock key will flash non-stop.)

Does anybody know why this is? I have had many hard power-offs during this trying to fix it and I think that I my have corrupted a file, maybe... But then I did run btrfs scrub on the device and it came back without any errors.

What information Should I post, apart from what I know which is that I am running NM.

Thank you.

Post a complete system journal covering a successful connection, but also see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=249458

Re: [SOLVED] I can connect to some WiFis but not others?

Here is an unsuccessful connection from a previous boot, and there is a successful connection there too before I had to hard power-off.

http://ix.io/1Xes

You can see the successful connection is made to 'moto x4 9284' and the unsuccessful one to 'TP-Link_EE8A'.

I have noticed that my wireless card is coming up twice in the second one, the unsuccessful one.

Thanks.

I saw that other post and it was also me. I disabled wpa_supplicant in that case and it fixed it for the moto x4 wifi connection.

Re: [SOLVED] I can connect to some WiFis but not others?

So this is actually a continuation of the original problem.
I'd suggest to first drop NM (stop and disable the service) and try to connect w/ wifi-menu.
If this is more reliable, you could try to change the dhcp client in NM: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … HCP_client
But because of the original problem my guess is that NMs multi-access on the chip (frequent scanning to drain your battery…) is the ongoing cause.
As mentioned in the other thread, the actual bug is in the ath10k module and should probably be raised upstream (didn't find any reports previously) - it also means you could resort to the LTS kernel for the time being.

wifi-menu is part of the netctl package and allows you to connect to an AP using an ncurses TUI.
