I've finished my install of a Arch Linux base system and everything is working fine, no errors found in the the systemd journal nor systemctl. I've installed the display server Xorg via the package xorg. Then I decided to install the graphics card drivers. As I'm running the GTX 1080 I figured I should install the nvidia package. Then after reboot the resolution didn't adjust for my monitor so it stays at a lower resolution, which makes text uncrisp and big.
The nouveau drivers included in the base system managed to scale correctly after boot. I then uninstalled the Nvidia driver and I was back with the properly functioning nouveau drivers. A reinstall didn't help and I tried making a Xorg Monitor conf as per this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 6#p1707166 but to no avail. I then tried to add vga=0x034d to the kernel parameters in systemd-boot. So that didn't work either, I could not find anything related to this in the wiki nor the forums.

Display resolution for a console or for X?

Just for the shell you boot into on startup without any graphical interface

Thank you for that. I must have not done enough research.

If fonts are too large, i recommend to change the font dpi. If you have KDE, go to settings > Fonts and change the force font DPI : 96

Please do not necrobump, especially not topics marked [SOLVED] and with irrelevant information (the OP wants to change the boot resolution, not the resolution in X).
