Hello,
Just read the latest news and I've got a couple of questions:
- we use pacstrap base to install a base arch, does it mean from now on we have to manually install the kernel too?
- It says 'does not currently contain kernel, editor and other software', other than kernel and an editor (I guess they mean something like vi?), what else do we need for a basic installation which was included before in the base group? Or is this up to everyone's specific needs?
Thx

- Yes, you'll need to specify one of the available kernels you want to use as well now.
- A bootmanager, Microcode and possibly file system tools. And yes, it's pretty much up to your specific needs.
Update:
You'll only need the kernel if you need to boot and run the respective system. E.g. for a clean-chroot-build system you may not require to install any kernel package.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ta … d_packages contains the list of packages that were in the base group but are not in the base package.

Thank you for these quick answers!
It's definitely clear now ![]()
Just one more question, does this mean the package group will be obsolete any time now?
