How do I open a second instance of Everdo?

Isn't there some clever way? I tried replacing the '%U' in the .desktop file with another config folder but that didn't work.

I'd like to use one instance for GettingThingsDone and another for tagging quotations just because I don't know any other program that let's me tag and search so easily.

I don't know the application, but you can try run from terminal 'everdo --help' and see if there are options to run second instance, but if it is not supported than you can run second instance in: chroot, schroot, firejail (my preferred), container, systemd-nspawn (maybe overcomplicated), etc.

Firejail sort of works, but takes a little too much resources. The same for container. Couldn't you use chroot to open a program as another user while staying logged in?

Re: How do I open a second instance of Everdo?

Chroot isn't requried to run stuff as different user as well, but some su(do) helper for GUI stuff (gksu or so) will be required to establish access to the "foreign" display server (of your main user)
I know nothing about everdo, but do you really need seperate instances or do you just want a second window? In any event I'd first look around in the programs features rather than bending the world around it.

sudo /opt/Everdo/everdo
[23:58:01.271] [info] Using config file at /root/.config/everdo/config.json

Just running it as root works for me, tnx for the directions! I hope it isn't too much of a bad practice?

I found a program named 'chuser' but it didn't do what I wanted it to do.

More like "terrible".
Create a new "regular" user and run "sudo -u newuser everdo" if it's really not possible to solve the problem with one account.
Never abuse root for such stuff and certainly not for some bloated binary-only (home-phoning?) GUI stuff. That's a massive security risk.
