Hi,
Today I ran pacman -Syyu for the first time in a few months (yeh I know), and after updating with apparently no issues it failed on reboot.
I am getting init[1]: segfault at 0 ip xxxxx sp xxxxx error 14 in busybox[xxxxxx]
Code: Bad RIP value
Kernel panic - not syncing
etc...
I couldn't see how to attach a photo of the error (the error isn't on a VM, it's bare metal on a Lenovo laptop).
I have tried rebooting using an Arch boot USB and using arch-chroot to install the base package given the note on the Arch home page which didn't appear to add anything in terms of file size. I then reinstalled the linux package and a few others to trigger regeneration of initial ram images etc. In the end I tried reinstalling all my packages using pacman -Qqn | pacman -S -
Having done all of that the error is still the same. Not sure what to try now, other than reinstall from scratch which I'd rather avoid if at all possible!
Would appreciate any advice of how to proceed ![]()
PS. I have now tried wiping /boot/* and installing GRUB (was using systemd-boot) and also tried booting with the initramfs-fallback which also gives the same error.

Not an installation issue; moving to Newbie Corner.

Sure, thanks! I've been using Arch for 6 years, but definitely a newbie to the forums. I've hardly ever had issues as I have always found it to be very stable on my laptop but when I have I've been able to sort them myself using the Wiki etc. but this time I think I need to reach out for help! :-)
