I've been using Arch on this machine very happily since I bought it new several years ago. But just recently I have had two problems: the left trackpoint button no longer works: it "clicks" but doesn't seem to work, and my bluetooth is being very flaky. I have a bluetooth mouse: a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse, which works well when it connects. But sometimes it simply fails to connect, and then the only way to reconnect is to turn bluetooth off and on again, remove the device, and then re-install it. This is a real pain.
For the trackpoint mouse I've used xev to determine that the button press does indeed register an event. But I can't use it, for example, to select text. Holding it down does nothing. I've tried re-loading the psmouse module with the parameters "proto=imps" but that did nothing for me.
Also a hard reboot failed to make a difference.
I last did a full upgrade a few months ago, but this issue has been happening more recently than that.
Any ideas that might help? Without a fully working mouse - either trackpoint and buttons, or external, my ability to work is severely limited. Of course I could go and buy a wired mouse, or a wireless (not bluetooth) mouse, but I feel I shouldn't have to; I'd rather get the hardware I have working. I suppose I could also write a small shell script for re-installing the bluetooth mouse each time it fails to connect.
But if there's a better way, I'm happy to know of it!
Thanks very much.
