Night Light broken in Gnome 3.34.1 Wayland

Night Light doesn't work in Wayland after upgrading to Gnome 3.34.1. Works fine in Xorg but logging out retains the Night Light effect (in GDM and even in the Wayland session) until a restart or logging back into Xorg and turning it off.

Same here. Night light is broken on ArchLinux Gnome 3.34.1

Keep it simple, stupid.

Re: Night Light broken in Gnome 3.34.1 Wayland

I can confirm this. Downgrading gnome-shell and gnome-desktop to 3.34.0 didn't resolve this, even after a reboot. Perhaps I missed something.

Re: Night Light broken in Gnome 3.34.1 Wayland

I think there's some sort of race condition in colord or gsd-color. Restarting both in that order tends to fix things for me.

EDIT: Looks like that "fix" isn't helping any more…

Not that I can see. You can vote on this bug report if you want more attention to this issue.

This is an upstream bug, what do you expect voting on the Arch bug tracker to do, exactly?

You're right. That wasn't disclosed in the Arch Linux bugtracker when I made the comment.

The issue tracker in GNOME GitLab says that the fix was merged into mutter. It should be available in mutter-git. mutter 3.34.1+12+g943b06999-1 is in testing, and the next testing build after this one will probably have the fix.

Re: Night Light broken in Gnome 3.34.1 Wayland

For users still affected, here is the upstream bug report. I didn't catch this thread earlier, but mutter-performance already includes the fix. There are still issues with redshift-gnomerr (an alternative to Night Light) and multi-monitor setups. Let's hope upstream fixes these soon.
