Hello,
Today after an update, I rebooted my machine and tried to start KDE via startx command and was greeted by an error that stated X server terminated due to startkde not found.
I've looked through past posts but nothing that seems this specific. How can I debug this?

The answer is that it got changed!

To start Plasma with xinit/startx, append exec startplasma-x11 to your .xinitrc file. If you want to start Xorg at login, please see Start X at login.

For me, it only worked to set the full path in .xinitrc:
exec /usr/bin/startplasma-x11
