[SOLVED] How can I appoint my Windows key to open up the app. menu?

And preferrably also to launch applications with combinations like "Windows+1", "Windows+2" etc.

What window manager are you using?  i3, Openbox, xfce4, gnome and plasma?  Different WMs use different solutions.

I use i3 and Rofi

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. It is xfce4.

In xfce4, open Settings->keyboard.  Select the Applications Shortcut tab, That page will allow you to bind key presses to applications.

Exactly what command should I type to open up the applications menu?

I just experimented with it,  In Xfce4, I bound it to xfce4-appfinder.  Of course, you can bind Windows-2, Windows-2, etc... to whatever you like.  There is also nothing preventing you from using a tool like Rofi or Dmenu, even though you are in Xfce4

It may be that it is not possible to bind the Super key ("Windows" key) to the applications menu and set combinations at the same time like Super-1. In that case, don't set a shortcut for the Superkey alone, but use a combination like Alt-F1 or Super-Ctrl-Alt-F1. then configure xcape to send that shortcut when the Super key is pressed.
