Hi,
Virtualbox host app is now not recognising the mouse in certain situations. Note: host app, not host when a guest is running.
- Pop-up dialogues will not allow me to click the buttons - I have to use keyboard navigation, and in some circumstances even that does not work (e.g. clone dialogue pop up)
- Main menus will not respond to left click, so I cannot navigate them. I have to use Alt-<char> but THEN the mouse can navigate the menu!
- I can click on the list of VMs and navigate the snapshots thereof with the mouse
I have re-installed virtualbox, virtualbox-guest-iso (but not uninstalled then re-installed)
I was using dkms host modules, but switched to virtualbox-host-modules-arch and re-installed the above two again.
No change.
I also re-installed qt5-base, as I thought this might be the source of borkage. I still suspect this is some kind of QT or UI related lack of playing well together, given the symptoms.
My WM is i3. I use the LXDM greeter.
Any suggestions as to logs or advice to completely re-install virtualbox from scratch without losing existing guest VMs most welcome.
Thanks in advance

I take it that you have installed guest additions in the guest os?

Hi andym,
This is nothing to do with guests, just the host application.
No guests are running.
Thanks

Have you tried downgrading VirtualBox? Just reinstalling shouldn't make any difference, but try downgrading to the version before your last update. Make sure to downgrade the relevant VirtualBox dependencies as well. Check your pacman log to see what happened during the last update related to VirtualBox.

No guests are running.
So the problem with the mouse and the keyboard occurs when Virtualbox is not running?
If you unload the vbox modules does the problem disappear?

twelveeighty - I will look into that solution and report.
andym - Virtualbox host app is running, but no guests. The issue only relates to the host virtualbox manager application. Other applications - e.g. Thunar, IDEA - etc are fine.

This problem appears to be i3 related, not virtualbox.
If I fullscreen the app then un-fullscreen, the menu navigation via mouse is restored.
This has also occurred on another application.
Will amend title.
