Ethernet Connection (ThinkPad Dock) using nm-cli

Hi,

so I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1 (around 2014) with i3 and a Thunderbolt Dock here. I used nm-applet to connect to wifi networks and it worked. The notebook doesn't have an integrated ethernet port but the dock does. I actually never used the ethernet but now I'd like to set it up. The dock works fine.

Earlier today I started to read about nmcli since nm-applet only shows me the wifi networks and I thought that a cli tool would fit better into my overall setup. Anyway, I read a bit about nmcli and at some point I used "nmcli radio wifi off" to turn off the wlan. (Just to play around with nmcli.) It somehow connected me to the ethernet - sadly I can't recall the properties of that connection but it worked. I then tried to set it up manually but I failed and now it won't fall back to the ethernet connection automatically anymore if I turn off the wifi.

So here are some outputs:

$ nmcli radio wifi on
$nmcli device status
DEVICE          TYPE      STATE         CONNECTION
wlp4s0          wifi      connected     XXX
p2p-dev-wlp4s0  wifi-p2p  disconnected  --
lo              loopback  unmanaged     --
$ nmcli radio wifi off
$ nmcli device status
DEVICE          TYPE      STATE        CONNECTION
wlp4s0          wifi      unavailable  --
p2p-dev-wlp4s0  wifi-p2p  unavailable  --
lo              loopback  unmanaged    --
$ nmcli con show
NAME         UUID                                  TYPE  DEVICE
XXX      896fad63-f23b-4ee9-bd1e-8020e0676d03  wifi  wlp4s0
eduroam-5 1  c5004019-16e9-449f-9b4d-37d56e0dabca  wifi  --
Honeypot 2   1c99451c-d979-4d22-8e3a-461df3f7bc79  wifi  --

I never added a ethernet connection since I just don't know what my ethernet device is. The 3 connections above all are some wifis which work and I use regularily.

I'm not sure what that p2p-dev-wlp4s0 is. Wlp4s0 is my network interface, I thought, maybe it's like an "internal p2p" to my dock? But then, why should that be wifi?

I don't really know what else to give.

Edit: So I just tried to unplug my dock and plug it in again. It failed to recognize the 2nd screen so I restarted a few times (somehow i kept not recognizing it) but at some point it did. And now I also get this:

Use "nmcli device show" to get complete information about known devices and
"nmcli connection show" to get an overview on active connection profiles.

Consult nmcli(1) and nmcli-examples(7) manual pages for complete usage details.

so I guess it just didn't recognize the ethernet adapter of my dock before so I'll have to figure out that problem first.

Now I'm connected to both - is that now a bounded connection? Does nm switch between the two each time one has a better connection?
