usb scanner problems

Have a plustek UT12

#sane-find-scanner

  ...
found USB scanner (vendor=0x07b3, product=0x0001) at /dev/usb/scanner0
found USB scanner (vendor=0x07b3, product=0x0001 [USB Scanner]) at libusb:001:003

but
#scanimage -L
finds no scanner

edited
/etc/saned/plustek.conf
with many combinations

[usb] 0x07B3 0x00001
device libusb:001:003

[usb] 0x07B3 0x00017
device libusb:001:003

but no luck

also added to /etc/fstab
and rebooted

none         /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults,devmode=0666 0 0

kernel 2.4.25

still stuck

Off to using Peanut and Slackware, no hard feelings but I need my CD to burn, PDA and scanner to connect and arch won't do it.

try "mode=666" instead. if that doesn't work then you will have to set permissions in rc.local for your device. i believe i mentioned this last month in a few posts that you should be able to find with a quick search.

(i am to lazy to look up the posts, sorry)

if you navigate into /proc/bus/usb you will see some numbered directories (ie 001/,  002/ .....) peek in each one of those to see which has the files 001 and 003 (that is from the data you gave above). once you find out which directory it is in put an entry like this in rc.local:

 chown -R sarah.users /proc/bus/usb/001/*

this should give you user access to your device. i could not get devmode/mode to work for me (so i removed it from the fstab line).

I have come over from http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=18901#18901.

For those who 've seen my problem, I have now found why I lost xsane as user, but retained it as root.

My device number in /proc/bus/usb/... had changed. It was earlier 001 003 and it fell back to 001 002 probably because of the smal changes I had made to /etc/hosts and/or my setting up postfix.

I followed Sarah31's instructions, above.
