During a update I broke the Pacman installer and now I'm trying to restore the system.
Acording to the ArcLinux wiki on packman I should start the computer using an USB with the latest iso and mount the disks.
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/var
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/home
mount - t proc proc /mnt/proc
mount --rbind /sys /mnt/sys
mount --rbind /dew /mnt/devThe reason I mount the /mnt/home is that I unfortunately have the local pacman repo there. Thus the next row is a unfortunate symlink needed to update the system.
ln - s /mnt/home/var/pacman /mnt/var/cache/pacmanLater I have added a new path in /mnt/etc/pacman that is direct connected to the the path (lesson learned).
Now to update the system I write
pacman --debug --sysroot /mnt -SyuBut the results are :
.
.
. A lot of text then
debug: url: http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/arclinux/os/x86_64/core.db
debug: maxsize 26214400
debug: using time condition 1572018031
debug: opened tempfile for downloading : /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db.part
error: failed retrieveing file ftp.acc.umu.se: Resolving timed out after 10000 milliseconds I have tested download the file with wget and curl and that works. Thus I un commented one of the following :
/etc/pacman.conf
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget........
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/curl..... Then I started the update above again but got same results for bot options.
Then I changed
/etc/resolveconf.conf
name_servers=8.8.8.8No change in the update.
Then I changed the boot parameters to disable ipv6. Tested both off these.
ipv6.disable=1
ipv6.disable_ipv6=1Nothing worked and I'm still able to manually download the core.db file but not with pacman.
Is that a bug or am I doing it wrong?

P.s I wrote this on my phone so the logs are hand written and may contain small errors. Thus also the answer from my part may be delayed.

Just writing
pacman - Syu Seams to work? Why? Where does it save the installation?

You can download http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/arclinux/os/x86_64/core.db using the installation media just the pacman command fails?

Ok that works but installs the packages on the USB drive. Not what I want.
But why does that work but not with the
--sysrootcommand?
Offline
Broken curl / resolver configuration inside the chroot. What is you use --root instead of --sysroot?
Offline
Acording to this side. The command should be.
pacman --root=/mnt - SyyuAnd it atleast seams to do something now.

Is the wiki old or outdated?
Offline
--sysroot is newer than --root but for recovering a broken installation --root may be more appropriate.

Thanks. Perhaps that should be mentioned in the wiki?

Last point in the wiki states that I should run:
find /mnt/usr/lib - size 0That still shows a lot of files that are 0 size but can't be installed, mostly modules to python, heroku and modules/5.3.7-arch1/bild/*.* How do I fix them?

Hmm. I used the command above but filed out all .h, .py and .js files the list gets a lot shorter and mostly contains gitignores, .bs and .supp files.
wow that is a badly formatted sentence. Sorry.

Try
pacman --root=/mnt --dbonly -S pacman
pacman --root=/mnt -S pacmanOffline
Same warning again.

I tested
pacman --root=/mnt -Dk

Yes
rm -rf /mnt/var/lib/pacman/local/pacman-5.2.0-2
pacman --root=/mnt --dbonly -S pacman
pacman --root=/mnt -S pacmanLast edited by loqs (2019-10-29 17:37:32)

A little bit better.
error: file owned by 'libtinfo' and 'nurses' : '/usr/lib/libtinfo.so'
error: file owned by 'libtinfo' and 'ncurses5-compat-lib' :'usr/lib/libtinfo.so.5'
No database error have been found! But the find command still reports a lot of 0 size files.
Do loqs have an awesome answer to that to?

What command produced that output?

I was unclear what command produced the output
error: file owned by 'libtinfo' and 'nurses' : '/usr/lib/libtinfo.so'

I'm thinking that
pacman --root=/mnt -Qlgives a list of all the files installed on the system...

Sorry I missed the command.
It was
pacman --root=/mnt -DkOffline
Can the system run an update now?
pacman --sysroot /mnt -SyuOffline

pacman --sysroot /mnt -Syu
Nop. I still get the same time out error as before.
