KDE 'Device Notifier' recognizes no USB drive

Fresh install of Arch w/ standard kernel, etc, on a 10-ish year old Dell laptop and the KDE 'Device Notifier' recognizes no USB drive. If I plug in a drive, the last few lines of 'dmesg' show...

The weird thing is that a simultaneous install of arch on a Dell OptiPlex 3050 workstation _does_ recognize any USB drive plugged-in. I'm using a text file, listing installed programs, to keep both systems' packages in-sync: they should both have this issue, but don't.
        I've been using Linux for decades, but only recently moved from Fedora: I guess I was spoiled by how much Fedora does for you. Now I'm rolling my own, I could really use a bit of help.

Have you updated your kernel and not restarted the system?

Please wrap command output in [ code ] [ /code ] tags. I agree with arojas, this does look like kernel update without a reboot, so the usb_storage modules can not be loaded.
