Hi. I have a relatively fresh install of Arch. I had installed Nordvpn and added a extention that had a gui that showed up in networkmager to managed it. However i think the extention may have broken wifi in some way.
Gnome started to freeze periodically. In this i mean the curser would not move across the screen fluidly. So i removed the extention manually. And gnome performance improved.
Problem is i can connect to the router but cannot access the internet. And im not sure why. I removed nordvpn as well. But the problem still persists.
Connection to the router: yes
Connection to the internet: no
Any help?

Hey,
Alright first thing first when you're asking for help, it's always good to give as much information as possible and especially to be precise, tell us basic informations about your connexion, for example is it static or dhcp, wifi or ethernet, what did you already try, which instructions did you follow and so on.
By that i mean:
added a extention that had a gui that showed up in networkmager to managed it
Which extension ? (a link to the package or where you found it)
So i removed the extention manually.
Manually ? What does that mean ? Did you delete a specific folder ? Did you "manually" typed pacman -R ?
How exactly is your connexion configured in NetworkManager ? (maybe it's still trying to use a .ovpn file, maybe you're connecting just fine with a static ip to your router but you're missing a dns server, maybe ......)
Are you using a firewall ? Maybe a killswitch was installed and is now blocking your connexion
Can you paste networkmanager's logs somewhere and post the link here. That's extremely valuable.
After you've tried to connect, the outputs of the following commands might be useful: "ip r", having a look at the content of /etc/resolv.conf might be useful too.
Some references:
NetworkManager -> https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
NordVPN -> https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NordVPN
Network Configuration -> https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration
Have a good day!
Carefully explaining your problem is half the solution.

Thanks for your response and I do apologize for my vagueness. I was really tired. Anyways....
The extension i used was called Nordvpn Connect https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ … n-connect/
I had used it before in Fedora 30 it had a small bug in it but liked it.
I removed nordvpn sudo pacman -R nordvpn-bin.
At this point i couldn't get on the internet on.
The extension was removed manual directly out of the .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions file.
I had installed it via the on/off button on the gnome package website. My intent was to simply turn it off. this didnt work so i just rm it.
$ ip r
default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlp1s0 proto dhcp metric 20600
10.8.0.0/24 dev tun0 proto kernel scope link src 10.8.0.1
192.168.1.0/24 dev wlp1s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.86 metric 600
the ip r tells me networkmanager should be working. This is were the weird part for me is. I can connect to the router and log into it but not internet itself.
i will look up the logs reguardless to see if there are clues there.
Im not sure exactly how the kill switch works. but it is interesting. I had origionally thought iptables. Nord overwrites the ufw tables.

Please use code tags for commands and their outputs.
What is the output of:

The problem is that Nordvpn clobbered this file. You do have Internet connectivity, but your DNS look ups are broken.

Thanks for the help guys....
Edit:
one thing i have discovered is that the killswitch once activated causes Nordvpn to prevent any further connectivity with the internet.
Dont go through the nausia of having to do a chattr -i and chattr -s on the resolv.conf file. This is a waist of time and effort. Simply do the following
nordvpn set killswitch off
nordvpn d
nordvpn c yourcity or country
nordvpn set killswitch 0n
or if you have the graphical interface like i had you can switch it off reconnect and then turn the killswitch back on.
In my case the killswitch worked and did exactly what it was supposed to i just didnt recognise the symptoms.
My service provider is by satellite so any cloud or weather can cause a breach in the tunnel to the nordservers. When your connection to the tunnel is lost the switch activates. The iptables that nord installs prevents connectivity. I hope this explains is happening.
