and followed what was suggested here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=112324
but still got the same error

Re: can't mount a fat32 usbstick

what are both
the actual entry you put into /etc/fstab,

and the command you ran to mount it (and if the command was ran as root or not) (list exactly what you've tried)

please don't just say you did a wiki page, or did a whole thread. Try to list out exactly what YOU have tried, not just what pages/threads say should be done. (Basically the above questions about the fstab entry and the mount command)

the error is saying its either listed as the wrong fs type (-t in a mount command, third column in fstab), or one of the options is incorrect/invalid (fourth column in fstab, and/or something in -o. (or the file system is bad or a helper program is missing, but lets look at the first two potential causes first)

Also ensure that you are running a kernel that can load modules, if you've ran a system update including the kernel and didn't reboot yet you should do so

uname -a
pacman -Q linux #Or whatever kernel package you're actually using

should match

mount /mnt/flash
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/flash

with and without "sudo" (however i know as stated in the wiki it shouldn't affect the output due to "user")

The user option means that any user (even non-root) can mount and unmount the partition /dev/sdX

Re: can't mount a fat32 usbstick

As V1del said, if your kernel can load modules, you don't even need to write any mount options with external drives/pendrives/sdcards to /etc/fstab (unless you want specify some mount option(s)). You can mount/open it by gui programs like file managers (I use doublecmd for that, but it may be any which display drives); some desktop environments have options to automount that drives.
