Re: [SOLVED] Linux 5.4 and Intel Wifi

I'm using an Intel 3168NGW.  I was having trouble with the previous kernel (5.3.*), but 5.4 has been free of issue.  However, my problem wasn't the same as yours.  I could see my device in iwctl, but it couldn't detect or connect to any networks.

But I see you mentioned wifi-menu.  That is a utility associated with netctl, is it not?  I don't believe netctl can use iwd.

Re: [SOLVED] Linux 5.4 and Intel Wifi

i can confirm this after updating linux-zen from 5.3 to 5.4 last night the wireless device (wireless-ac 9260) is recognized but iwlwifi fails to load. i tried downgrading firmware versions to test but makes no difference. if i reboot into linux-lts 4.19 it's working.

i did notice however that if i remove this module option from modprobe.d then wifi works but on a very limited range of frequency due to regulatory domain problems for which i used that parameter to fix in the first place. without it, there is only 1 5ghz ac channel it will connect to and only at 20mhz width making my connection go from 360mbps down to 5-7mbps.

lar_disable=1

The same wifi card works fine here on 5.4 using networkmanager.

if i remove lar_disable=1 then i get limited functionality back but it's next to useless. LAR (Location Aware Regulatory) ends up cancelling out every 5ghz channel except for 1 and only at 20mhz. for now i rolled back to zen 5.3 until i can figure it out.

EDITING MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE TO AVOID CONFUSION: All the problems I had with this wifi adapter were caused by my previous router which was not 100% compatible with some wifi adapters.
