[solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

Hello,

Apparently i am not allowed to post in the "Announcements, Package & Security Advisories" so i post here.

in the main page i saw xorg cleanup needs a manual intervention. I am using arch for less than a year and it is the first time i need a manual intervention during the upgrade for a package i use. This might be a simple rookie confusion. Sorry if it is.

So i tried to execute the command suggested in the archlinux.org main page, and it returned an error saying that it is impossible to find the target. This error is for both packages: libxxf86dga and libdmx.

I tried to make sense out of it so i searched with pacman -Ss both of this packages. libdmx returned nothing and libxxf86dga returned it exists in the extra but it is not marked as installed.
In the main page it also says we can remove "xorgproto" after the upgrade. I checked and it is installed in my system.

Now, if i try to upgrade, i see libxxf86vm in the update list While is not supposed to be installed if i belive pacman -Ss. BTW after seen it in the list, i denied the upgrade.

Now i am confused and i need your lights. Since "sudo pacman -Rdd libdmx libxxf86dga" doesn't work, what should i do? can i update safely? should i try an other command?
And most important, for next time: how can i know what to do in such a situation?

thanks for reading.

Re: [solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

Why? Press yes, if you run into conflicts in this regard, remove the conflicting package using the command from the news item and update again.

Re: [solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

You'll need to agree to the upgrade to see whether you get the output the news covers.

news wrote:

the update requires manual intervention when you hit this message :

:: installing xorgproto (2019.2-2) breaks dependency 'xf86dgaproto' required by libxxf86dga

when updating

If you don't get the message, you aren't affected.

Re: [solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

Thank you.

so at the end of the day i was not affected.

And i also misread the part saying the problem is a possibility not a mandatory thing.

Thank you guys for your time.

Re: [solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

To update I run command 'pacman -Rdd libdmx libxxf86dga && pacman -Syu' but I had to remove also libxxf86misc because of xorgproto (which dependency block whole update). Then I removed xorgproto, Now I have question: is it safe to be libxxf86misc removed or is it needed for something (I have it in cache, so I can install it if needed)?

Re: [solved] Question about xorg manual intervention.

Nothing in repos depends on libxxf86misc , and it was mentioned as being obsolete in the thread on xorg-devel mailing list that started all this.

Don't re-install it.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
