VLC player chrashes my computer

My PC is 10+ years old
My proccessor : AMD Sempron LE-1250
Ram: 2GB
Kernel version: 5.4.5-arch1-1

This happened to me last night, I was trying to watch some videos using VLC player when suddenly  chrashed my PC,  no keyboard or mouse response and the monitor looked something like this

https://i.stack.imgur.com/0jEBK.jpg

I tried a second time, the same video and it crashed, a few tries later and still happened. Now sometimes I could finish a whole video but when I try to play a second video, it crashed. Other times I could play three or even 4 videos in a row, but the end result was the same: it crashed

The last time I tried, I was ready and record the time, here is the output of the

Re: VLC player chrashes my computer

I actually forget something important:

At 3:45 I started to take time of what happened.
At 3:47 I pushed a random key on the keyboard and the light of the keyboard and mouse shut down
At 3:50 I had to make a hard turn off of my PC

If you read the output of

journalctl

all of that didn't register!

Looks like you're having some memory faults with the nouveau module. Are you using integrated or discrete graphics?
You can run a MemTest to check your memory.

It's integrated and also, I run the memtest86+ (I know it's not the best option) and I pass every test, no errors. but after reading online, it's possible to pass the test and have a faulty memory so the best answer is that my memory has an error but memtest86+ doesn't recognize it.

Re: VLC player chrashes my computer

I checked the specs of AMD Sempron LE-1250 and it says here however that there is no integrated graphics in the chip?
Are you certain you're not using a different graphics card? It looks like it's the memory in your graphics that is not writable causing the errors.

Edit: Integrated you probably mean with the motherboard. What's the MB?

I checked the specs of AMD Sempron LE-1250 and it says here however that there is no integrated graphics in the chip?
Are you certain you're not using a different graphics card? It looks like it's the memory in your graphics that is not writable causing the errors.

Edit: Integrated you probably mean with the motherboard. What's the MB?

Oh, yes you're right, the GPU it's integrated on the motherboard My exact computer
. My graphics card is 00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2)

How can I check the memory of the GPU? It's something that can be fix?

Re: VLC player chrashes my computer

I was going to suggest installing NVIDIA driver but this is an old card and would need a downgrade of Xorg to use.
Have you tried other video players? Is this inherent only in VLC?

At 3:47 I pushed a random key on the keyboard and the light of the keyboard and mouse shut down

I don't like the sound of that.

Re: VLC player chrashes my computer

@d_fajardo This problem is not only for VLC, but VLC is the one who makes it every time.
It happened the first time I used VIM but after removing it and reinstalling it, everything works fine
Happened with jupyter notebook inside a virtual environment but after searching online it doesn't happend any more.
An of course, I reinstalled VLC one or twice but that doesn't work.

I haven't try it with  another video player, I was trying to fix what ever crashes my PC.

At 3:47 I pushed a random key on the keyboard and the light of the keyboard and mouse shut down

I know that isn't normal, but the worst thing is that the journal stopped five minutes before! So what ever is happening, it causes everything to stop

Re: VLC player chrashes my computer

Did you try running Mem-Test with the CPU registers? CPU registers might be starting to fail and that memory (00b020) could be a register.

I'm not sure how to do that, can you give me a link that explains it?
