There's an internal fault in gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor. is the system fully updated? Do you get a core dump and what are it's contents?

Rolled back the gvfs version to 1.40.2-1, as advised here. This solves the problem.

Same here downgrading gvfs worked, the same thing seems to have fixed the file dialog crashing on firefox
