Is it possible to install 32 bit Chromium on a 64 bit machine?

I have read, that 32 bit chromium uses nearly half of memory than 64 bit chromium (http://laptoplcdrepair.net/chrome-64-bi … -security/) As I have only 4 GB memory, few tabs in chromium and memory is full, maybe it would be worth to try out the 32 bit chromium. Of course I would like to maintain the 64 bit chromium installation as well, so if possible, installing the 32 bit version into another directory/path.

I can only find a 64-bit version of Google Chrome on Google's website. Maybe that means that 32-bit is not possible? If it's possible, maybe you would have to try to compile it yourself? Compiling it yourself would be totally unrealistic because it will take a really long time, and it might not work with not enough RAM. What I'd try is look around in repos of 32-bit Linux distros, see if there's a package there. You should be able to extract it in your home and can then try to start the program inside it.

You could check out Firefox as an alternative. It can be made to use a lot less memory than Chrome because you can control the amount of processes it spawns for different tabs. You can set it to use just one single process for all tabs. In Chrome it's always a new process for each tab.

but will it work if I install it?

I tried to test it with Tor browser: I downloaded the 32 bit Linux variant, which is a portable package. I extracted, and tried to run, but I got only an error message, something like "wrong architecture".

Simply extracting the chromium tar.xz won't work, I get an error message when trying to run: "error while loading shared libraries: libjson-glib-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Did you first enable the [multilib] repo and install all of the relevant packages?

Yes, somehow it is enabled by default at me.
Only one library was needed to install: lib32-json-glib
And then 32 bit chromium seems to be working after untaring it, similarly like a "portable" application.
