[SOLVED] xfdesktop no longer visible on login

After an update, xfce4's background is all black. I can manually start xfdesktop, and the desktop shows up, but then the icons don't work; a dialog pops up saying that there's no file manager such as Thunar to do that.

If I then run killall xfdesktop, the background flashes for a moment, but the desktop comes back and then sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it keeps giving the same error. I'm suspecting there is already an instance of xfdesktop running when the background is all black, but it's somehow just not visible.

My .xinitrc:

#compton &
setxkbmap br &
#touchegg &
xbindkeys &
xinput set-prop "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" 295 40 &
dunst &
pactl load-module-dbus-protocol &
pactl load-module-equalizer-sink &
pactl set-default-sink 1 &
redshift -t 4000:2500 -l [redacted] &
nm-applet &
exec xfce4-session

Any advice?

1. Your xinitrc is incomplete: read the wiki article and source the relevant files for a non-broken session.
2. "After an update" is meaningless on Arch. Post your log.

Re: [SOLVED] xfdesktop no longer visible on login

I haven't messed around too much with Arch for a while now, so I'm a bit out of shape, sorry. Somehow after fixing my xinitrc it started working. Weird, considering I've used a similar .xinitrc for years now and never had many problems, I only source the files I need on machines where they've been changed from the default. But thanks a lot for the quick reply.
