Firefox leeking memory?

I have seen some similar posts in the past but I have not found any recent posts with the same issue.

On my laptop with (Dell Xps 13, 16GB RAM) Firefox 71.0 and all its children uses around 2GB ram after firing up normal usage (a dozen or so tabs, maybe youtube playing in the background). I assume that is normal, and that is OK for me. But after a few hours of work, firefox eats up all my memory. Just now, firefox and its subprocesses  uses around 7 GB (!).

* I have not tested chrome or any other browser.
* I don't think this is related to any specific websites, as I have been observing this problem for about a year

If restarting firefox, the memory usage is down to 2 GB again.

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

The leak might come from your addons and not firefox itself. You could try to "Minimize memory usage" in about:memory. With the "Measure" function in the same page you can also create and analyze allocated memory.
