Configuring Multiple Displays on Xorg

Hi all.
I have a laptop with GTX 1060, which features a physical HDMI port. I've connected an external monitor to this HDMI port.
I've also attached a keyboard and mouse through USB to the laptop. Now here is the main problem.

I want to use the monitor, external keyboard, external mouse as one display and the laptop's integrated display, keyboard, mouse as a completely different display.
How should I configure the xorg.conf file for this?

What I've tried before:
Since I don't want to configure the complex xorg.conf file myself, I tried to use conf file generating tools like nvidia-xconfig and Xorg :0 -configure

Here's what each of them generated, and the problems that arose:

nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 440.44

    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth 24
    EndSubSection
EndSection

With the above configuration file, only the external display works, and the Laptop's integrated display is showing a blinking cursor.

I understand that above is supposed to be a wide multihead display, with both screens integrated into a single display. But even then, with this configuration file, for whatever reason, only the integrated display runs.

Please help me in using the correct xorg.conf file. Do I need to run multiple X servers for my purpose? In that case, how to do that?
Thanks in advance.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: Configuring Multiple Displays on Xorg

Yikes, I can't believe I didn't find it in a google search before.
Anyways I'm using GDM and the wiki doesn't mention the configuration for it. Could you maybe help here?
