NSD for personal machine

I've used for a while recursive DNS resolver Unbound and I wonder if i'st more secure / faster to use it in combination with authoritative NSD name server for personal use on laptop. Currently I don't own any site domains, and, I bewildered what should I include in all those example.com and example.com.zone  in Initial setup section. Do I have to buy a domain and then configure NSD to use it as authoritative resolver?

Looks like you don't have to buy any domain; did you saw examples on this site: https://calomel.org/nsd_dns.html ?
