I recently got hold of an Acer Aspire 5 (a515-43-r19l) which has AMD Ryzen 3 3200U CPU and Vega 3 integrated GPU.
I've followed the installation instructions and managed to get to a console - but ONLY by blacklisting the amdgpu module. If I let this module load then I just get a blank screen.
So with it blacklisted I've been trying to set up a window manager/xorg but when I try to start SDDM the screen just goes blank again.
I would have thought it would all just fall back to vesa but it doesn't seem like that is happening (otherwise it would just work, right?)
# lspci -nnk |grep "VGA\|'Kern'\|3D\|Display" -A2
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso [1002:15d8] (rev c4)
Kernel modules: amdgpuI read the intall pages on AMD GPUs, but the specific instructions are for southern lakes etc and not vega.
Can someone please help guide me on what driver to use / how to use it? I really don't need graphics acceleration or 3D or anything, I just want to use KDE for basic tasks.
I've installed arch loads of times before and never had a problem with graphics, so I'm really lost about what to look for!
Thanks very much.

There appears to be an issue with the ryzen 3 3200u and kernel 5.4.7 and later.

You could use the lts kernel until this has been solved, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel .
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

thanks Lone_Wolf -
OK I tried the LTS kernel, and it does let me use amdgpu without anything strange happening.
But I still can't start SDDM, same thing is happening there.
This might be a total red herring, but gnome on ubuntu live works absolutely fine and that loads the amd_iommu_v2 module which I don't seem to have anywhere in either arch kernel.

3rd generation Ryzen isn't supported by the LTS kernel so you'll have to downgrade the vanilla version to 5.4.6 instead.
