video editor for storing parts of videos in categories

I would like to select little clips from different videos and store them in categories, in order to later select some of them to put together a new video. Is this possible in any free video editor on arch? If not, what would be the easiest way to still achieve this?

You could use LosslessCut to choose clips and then store them in a directory structure? If you need tags you could try to symlink them into tagsistant. Both tools are available in the AUR.

Edit: Kdenlive also has a library you might be able to use instead.

Re: video editor for storing parts of videos in categories

I totally feel you on wanting to categorize and store specific clips for future video projects. It's a handy way to organize your content! ? Now, for free video editors on Arch, I stumbled upon an online editor called Movavi that might have some useful tools for your needs. You can check it out here: https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/how-to-add-subtitles-to-video.html/ . While I can't vouch for its exact features, it seems worth exploring. Personally, I'm new to this forum and still learning the ropes, so let's help each other out and find the easiest way to achieve our video editing goals.

In Shotcut, you can open the video and isolate only the clip you want, and save the project file (not export). Then, when you want to use it later, you can use "Open MLT XML As Clip..." from the file menu. It will even open the clip with filters if you added them.

ffmpeg will do what you are wanting. Look at -ss and -t switches.
Storing them in categories, give the clips a name that means something. ffmpeg will also combine video segments. If they are different parameters like bitrate or size, you may need to dump them to a transport stream, put them back together.
