[solved] Update broke audio?

Hi,



i update my system daily with pacman -Syu.
After doing this yesterday, my sound output seems to be broken and i do not really know where to start debugging.
Could somebody help me look into it? Thanks in advance!

I am using the onboard soundcard from my motherboard.

Which device do you want output out of? The AMD/HDMI card or the actual card that's part of the MB? It's likely that your graphics card didn't expose a HDMI interface but does with the new kernel, now your ALSA indices have shifted. That's normal, what i do find weird though is that you don't have a default device do you have any custom ALSA configuration?

FWIW if it's the first of these things with a new HDMI card appearing, creating a config in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf to the effect of 

options snd_hda_intel index=1,0

should shift the indices back to keep the integrated card in the first position.

Yes, i want to use the output of the onboard-sound and not from my videocard.
There was no alsa.conf in this directory so i created it with your suggestion being the only line in it and rebooted - sadly didnt change anything.

I am running this custom and fractional asoundrc for a long time and remember that i had problem with my audio in the first days of my arch install.
And i also remember that there was some event where i had to switch the indices.
Just gotta find out how to get alsa to re-read the asoundrc without rebooting, then i'll try changing my asoundrc

Looks like you have some kind of USB audio device, which may have grabbed slot 0 , as v1del stated an  /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file may fix this 

options snd_hda_intel index=-0

options snd_usb_intel index=-2

This will ensure onboard gets slot 0 and USB gets slot in future.

Hi,

there is no USB audio device. Could this be the usb-connector for the front-audio jacks on my pc case? I purely use my speakers with the output of my mainboard-audio and always have been.
Trying your suggestion now

Now using a rather deault .asoundrc

Which at least enables MPD to output audio \o/ Browsers are still without audio though.

Next edit:
Exactly one tab in my browser is able to output audio, nothing else seems to be allowed to output at the same time. Is this a mixing issue?

Well, thanks for the support, but i just had to change my asoundrc to the proper card (so card 1 in this case) - and voilá everything back to normal.
Guess its solved then.

Without a definition in modprobe that 1 is unstable ensure you have a file in modprobe, or use the "newly correct" string identifier of Generic instead of Generic_1
