My toughts about posting. (specialy the misplaced ones)

I'm beginning to get a bit irritated. (I know I shoudn't)
Latly there has been a large increase of post being posted in the "wrong" place.
Take 'arch discussion' as an example.(it's maby the one with most misplaced posts) There are post about everything from  "Learning Arch in depth" to "How turn off computer in KDE?"

While the first one clearly fits in the forum , the last one shoud have been posted in "Newbie Corner" or "Desktop Environments".

It's not that I want the forum to be moderated by the gestapo, and every user who post in the wrong place, to be shoot at sight. It's just that the forum woud have a cleaner look, and be easier to browse if people woud take 5 seconds to think about where their post belong, before they hit the "new topic" button.

It'll never end.
Really though, its mostly our responsibility in some shape or form. Whether it be change forum names so its more obvious or just hand move them to the right place. Checking for posts to be in the right spot is the last thing I think about though and I often forget.

ok, went through and sorted them out. Turns out the majority of the misplaced posts were from one user, go figure.

Re: My toughts about posting. (specialy the misplaced ones)

I reckon the forums need a few extra sections personally.  The one I always look for is "Other things Arch related" (like the "Other things Gentoo" in the Gentoo boards), because I find that some of my problems never fit into the sections that are already there.  A misc section would solve that problem, and if the same kind of problem keeps arising, it'll be a good show of what additional sections need to be made.

I also reckon that forums get full of bad posts because of peoples inability to use the "Search" button before they post, but thats a whole other story..

Just my two cents wink

heh maybe before people can post they should be forced to search at least once.

Or made the forums search based on a new threads title before it actually makes the new thread wink

I don't think adding new sections will fix the problem. When there is too many sections, they start overlapping with each other and it becomes difficult to choose which one is the best. The "Other things Gentoo" in the Gentoo boards is just a misc section. We already have the 'Newbie Corner' which acts like a misc section. Questions about all kinds of subjects are asked in the 'Newbie Corner'.
I understand that sometimes it's hard to find under which section to post. In that case, post in the section that you think it's the correct one. If it doesn't belong there, it'll be moved by a mod.
