Unstable WiFi random disconnects T490 Intel Wireless-AC 9560 iwlwifi

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've been using the Lenovo T490 with Arch for the past six months. Unfortunately, all this time, I was unable to get WiFi working reliably. I had been hoping for a kernel / firmware update to fix my issue but I had no luck so far.
I am currently on Linux 5.5.3, but the error was existing with all previous versions I've used. I get the same error on Manjaro and Ubuntu Live Systems, which makes me believe that it must be a firmware bug. No problems in Windows though.

Some WiFis work flawlessly (Work, iPhone Hotspot). Others (Android Hotspot), I can sometimes connect to, then it disconnects after 5 to 10 minutes. After the first disconnect I'm usually unable to reconnect. When disconnecting from the Android Hotspot, KDE asks me for the password three times, but is unable to maintain the connection in spite of the right passphrase entered. Then there are networks, I can't connect to at all (Home router).

I already tried to tinker with the regdom as another user on the web suggested, but without success.

Arch Wiki states, that the WiFi on T490 is working fine and links to an already fixed bug.

I was wondering if I am right in assuming that this is a firmware/kernel issue? I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one having this problem since the T490 is a relatively common device and I was able to replicate the error with various distributions.

I am eager to hear if there is someone facing similar issues.

Best regards.

Here are the dmesg outputs I get.

You are still getting the following using 5.5.3.arch1-1 ?

Hello loqs, thank you for your reply.

I just tried again and I can confirm that I get that error with my Android Hotspot.
This is the output of "uname -a"

Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … ss#iwlwifi? How about the (new) LTS kernel?

Re: Unstable WiFi random disconnects T490 Intel Wireless-AC 9560 iwlwifi

I've encountered additional dmesg error messages with a new WiFi Access Point. This is with 5.5.6 Arch. I keep you updated if anything changes or I find a solution.
Thanks for the support!

I'm also running into the

issue. I'm on 5.11.2. Did you find a solution?

The dmesg messages disappeared over the course of the updates, the wifi connection is still sometimes lost, then I just reconnect. I can sometimes prevent loss of connection by running a ping command in the background.

Re: Unstable WiFi random disconnects T490 Intel Wireless-AC 9560 iwlwifi

I'm having the exact same problem. WiFi drops completeley and I can see many of these messages on the logs:

iwlwifi 0000:3b:00.0: expected hw-decrypted unicast frame for station

What I discovered is that almost in any case, this problem happens during Zoom calls, specially when other computer on the same WiFi network joins a Teams meeting. Before, both computers can have simultaneous calls without issues (mostly).

Re: Unstable WiFi random disconnects T490 Intel Wireless-AC 9560 iwlwifi

I have a Killer 1650 AX200 which I saw many people have this issue with. So I bought a AX210 (Intel Corporation Device 2725 (rev 1a)) today to replace it. Unfortunately it too has the same issue.

I've tried updating the firmware to the latest firmware using linux-firmware-git but still having the same issue. I've also tried setting my AP's beacon interval to 50, no dice.

I get this issue every time I run a speed test of my wifi. Otherwise it happens 4 -5 times a day.

I've noticed that running a ping command after it happens does make reconnection faster.

I have access to wifi in  different places, and only one out of 4 have the same problem, so it may help pinpoint the problem, but I'm not sure what to look for really

Re: Unstable WiFi random disconnects T490 Intel Wireless-AC 9560 iwlwifi

Got the same problem on a t14,
Enabling software encryption and disabling 802.11n by adding this line to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf :

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1

seems to stop the disconnects and stabilize the connection.
