[SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

Hi,

I have a problem with mesa-19.3.4-1 package. I had to downgrade to previous version (19.3.3-1) because I can't start X server with the latest mesa package.

Here it is my Xorg.0.log.old file:

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

Yeah, I've had the same issue. I could also fix it with downgrade mesa to 19.3.3

Here is the output from journalctl:

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

Same here. Xorg-server crashes with "caught signal 4" .  Solves with downgrading Mesa to 19.3.3-1.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

Thanks for your reply RadekArcher and SpinEcho,

Today I mentioned it on IRC channel #archlinux about this and one user (iterati) confirmed that downgrading mesa package solves the problem.
Also, there is another post related to this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1887594

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

Same problem here.

In case the bug needs info (such as X.org logs) I can provide some.

I'm using Nouveau on a Macbook Pro 5,5 (GeForce 9400M).

Indeed downgrading MESA is needed to have a usable X.org session (although I didn't try with other DMs, but just a plain startx would also crash).

Cheers!

I can confirm, I also encountered this issue. Downgrading seems to allow X to run.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

There's no need for "me-too" type posts. New package appears to require AVX2, which would exclude a lot of older systems, more AMD than Intel.

The new version of mesa stopped Xvnc working for me. Downgrading to mesa-19.3.3-1-x86_64 fixed the issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

So what the developers of mesa expecting: that someone will buy new processor with avx2 just to have ability to run nouveau driver? That's silly! That's breaking compatibility with older hardware! In that case I would prefer nvidia blob over this!

Package mesa-19.3.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst also contains files /usr/lib/libswrAVX.so.0.0.0 and /usr/lib/libswrAVX2.so.0.0.0 and somehow works.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with mesa-19.3.4-1 package

New build of mesa package (19.3.4-2) works now for me too. This topic can be marked as solved if there are no objections.

You can do this by yourself: edit your first post and add [SOLVED] in the subject before your current subject :-)

Thanks ua4000 for telling me about this. I marked this topic as solved. I assume that other users can use the latest mesa package.
