Should I switch from Arc64 to (32-bit) Arc (codec support)

Because I had a AMD64 proc I thought it could be nice to try a 64-bit distro so I've installed Arc64.

Got KDE and other stuff up and running - thank you Pacman!

Also got mplayer and mplayer-plugin working see: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=24466

Now I could listen to streamed web radio from www.sr.se (Swedish only).

Next I tried to watch some web-tv from www.svt.se (Swedish only). For clips like mms://qstream-wm.qbrick.com/00928/sthlm/noje/melodifestival2006/guldklipp/garestad_satellit.wmv
I got sound but no image.

The problem has something to do with the right codec not present in the codecs package (correct?)

After reading this post "Arch VS. Arch64": http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=22117 the easy way out seems to be to "revert" to 32-bit ordinary Arc.  After all, as is pointed in this post, staying 64-bit might just not give me much of a perfomance boost.

Bottom line: is there some other way to get the right codecs working under Arc64? If so I might stay 64, otherwise I would be better off with the 32-bit flavour.

Sooner or later I would most likely find myself in need of acroread so this might be a second reason to leave (for now) Arc64.

Switch or not to switch... you are free to try to convince me to go either way.

You would need to setup a chroot environment and fill it with 32-bit versions of your media apps and their required libs and codecs. You could then run the 32-bit version of mplayer and use the correct 32-bit codec on Arch64.

Thank you iBertus for the suggestion. I might try this out.
