ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

I'm trying to set up ibus, but can't get it to run. I'm unsure what else I need to install. I've installed it as described in the wiki[1], and then running the setup command:

➜ ibus-setup

(ibus-setup:1705400): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 13:22:24.584: No GSettings schemas are installed on the system
[1] 1705400 trace trap (core dumped) ibus-setup

Any hints on what I should do? Has anyone gotten this to work?

What are the contents of this core dump? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … _core_dump

In which environment do you intend to run this in and how are you starting this environment?

Not sure what you mean by "environment" here. I'm running the command ibus-setup, on ArchLinux, on X11.

Re: ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

Well I doubt you are using "X11" by it's lonesome, what are you starting as part of your xorg session and with which initialization files (startx? xinitrc? display manager?)

Like I said, I don't really understand what the question meant. I'm using X11 with i3wm. Xorg is started via startx (I've never looked into other ways of starting it)

Re: ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

If you use startx, you should ensure that your xinitrc is properly set up (note the blue boxes) to ensure you actually have a valid session. If you still get this issue even with a correct .xinitrc (post it in doubt) then we might've found an actual bug in glib (we might've found one either way as crashing instead of providing some message or so isn't nice either way, but many tools assume valid dbus/logind sessions)

Re: ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

Yup, xinitrc is working properly. Don't quite see the relation between these settings and the error though, but everything seems to be in order.

Re: ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

Hmm... I'm now getting this same error for blueman-manager too (which I use daily).

I recently removed a lot of unused packages, so I'm curious if something is required but not explicitly a dependency.

Re: ibus complains that "No GSettings schemas are installed on the system"

Figured it out. Installed flatpak recently, and it hinted that I should add set `XDG_DATA_DIRS=/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/home/hugo/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share`. Looks like this overrides the default path where gsettings looks for schema files completely, so no apps can find them.

The proper value to export is:

export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/home/hugo/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share
