[SOLVED] HDMI/VGA displays not detected by `xrandr` but shows in audio

Hi everyone,

My laptop (VAIO A12) with integrated graphics does not detect external display with `xrandr`. I use KDE and the monitor does not show up in the "display configuration", but in the "audio output" the monitor is detected as "Analog Output (USB HDMI VGA Graphics Analog Stereo)". Tried HDMI and VGA ports with different monitors but the problem still exists. The external display used to work well on Windows. I thought it might be the problem of "modesetting" so I switched to Intel using "xf86-video-intel" but it doesn't work. Searched and tried for days but most of the solutions are for NVIDIA graphics and the rest didn't work...

I am new to Arch and I love this community, and I would appreciate if you can leave the suggestion in detail so that I don't get lost ^_^. If you have any idea or experience similar issues please join the discussion.

Please use "code" tags, not "quote" tags.

Can you play audio through the monitor?
There doesn't seem to be a VGA output (listed in xrandr), how did you try them? Are any adapters involved at any time?
Did you try different cables?
Complete output of "lspci"? (In case this is an optimus system, the hdmi output you use might be wired to the nvidia chip)
Please post a complete "dmesg" after attaching the external monitor.

No audio through the monitor as it doesn't have a built-in speaker.

For VGA, I just use VGA ports of monitor and laptop. There is no adapter involved. The output of HDMI and VGA are the same.

Different VGA and HDMI cables - yes, and different monitors.

At the very least, the hdmi output is internally wired through a USB3 adapter (and that device is presently not supported)

Finally I worked this out. I installed evdi then the latest displaylink.

If you have flicker mouse issue please try this solution.
