ESounD network problems

Hi, I have 2 computers, 1 running knoppmyth, 1 running Arch 0.7.2. I only have one set of good speakers, so I decided to run ESD on my mythtv box. On knoppmyth, I run esd with the following options:
-beeps -public -port 3142 -tcp

This beeps and brings up the following output:
- accepting connections on port 3142

On my Arch machine, I set ESPEAKER to
192.168.1.100:3142

I then run esd -tcp, but it hangs and doesn't seem to do anything. When I set the sound method in Gaim to ESD and test it, nothing happens. Any ideas?
