I'm using i3 with compton and I've been able to use fcitx (along with fcitx-mozc) with my trigger input method keys (alt+space) on firefox but not on rxvt-unicode. I'm not getting any sort of graphical feedback no matter what I set the trigger key to. I've also installed the whole fcitx-im group
My xinitrc:

solved:restarting x after editing ~/.pam_environment as per archwiki didn't seem to work but after I restarted arch entirely fcitx now works
